Original crock styling incorporates a deep container surrounded by an outer heated liner. This allows for even and slow cooking on low or high heat. Lift-out stoneware or metal containers make cleanup easier and are dishwasher safe. After cooling, they can also transfer to the fridge and be reheated as leftovers. Other models incorporate a heating element with the pot sitting on top. The flat, heated base can also be used as a griddle in a pinch. Other features include timers and a "keep warm" setting. These additional functions can act as a shutoff when the food is done, but still keep it ready to serve. The warm setting is also a wonderful asset when entertaining.
